The Original Hybrid Shorts

Every single day of the year is Earth Day, but today we’re taking more time than usual to celebrate the planet we call home. Below is a rundown of friends, brands, and Huckberry ambassadors all doing their part to waste less and ensure a greener, wilder future. From wearing hemp clothing to taking regenerative agriculture tips into our own backyards, we couldn’t be prouder to work with such an inspiring crew.

The secret to softer, more durable clothing isn’t necessarily hidden in a futuristic lab somewhere. In fact, it grows pretty easily from the ground right under our feet. We’re talking about hemp—and our friends at Wellen have been longtime fans. Hemp’s natural strength means these tees wear in like your sturdier garments, and their antibacterial weave breathes easily in the heat. Plus, hemp grows like a weed and uses less water and pesticides than other fibers. So they’ll stay out of landfills longer and are less polluting in the first place—that’s two wins for our planet as easy as throwing on a tee.

Patagonia needs no introduction, and, honestly, their Baggies barely need one either. In case the last few pairs you saw in the wild were too covered with mud to recognize, we’ll give you the rundown anyway. Baggies are the original hybrid shorts—and since 1982 their simple, do-it-all design is relatively unchanged. They’ve been worn everywhere from sunbathing in Antarctica to sailing around the world to cannonballing into your local swimming hole. Just throw a pair or two in your Black Hole Duffel, and you’ll have plenty of room leftover for all your gear.
