Lately, my winter uniform says “survival mode” instead of “cute and fashionable.” Since I live in New York City and walk everywhere, I prioritize comfort and warmth before everything else. Every time I leave my apartment to walk my dog or to run errands, I wrap myself up in a black puffer coat that goes down to my ankles and slip into my fuzzy booties. Although I’m properly insulated against the cold blasts of wind, I don’t feel excited about my outfit. In fact, I’ve come to rely too much on my casual pieces and thus am stuck in this dreary, winter fashion rut. However, like anyone else, all I needed was a bit of style inspiration to pull me out of this dark hole. While perusing through what celebrities wear while grocery shopping, I realized I can take any opportunity in leaving my apartment as a reason to dress up. The next time I walk my pup, I’ll throw on that two-tone wool coat I just bought and a pair of floral knee-high boots — voilà my winter outfits feel exciting again.
